Cubaris murina is the undisputed entry-level Cubaris species. An understated little isopod, they still have the characteristic “ducky face” but without any of the flashy colors or markings.

They also come without the main challenges of the Cubaris family, so they’re much more affordable and easy to care for. An ideal opportunity to gain hands-on ducky experience before going for the rarer and more expensive varieties (I’m looking at you Rubber Ducky Isopods).

The ‘Little Sea isopods’ are a natural fit for tropical setups, and they can actually perform some bioactive duties in a terrarium. More than just a pretty face? In this case, yes.

Compatibility Check

There is anecdotal evidence of Cubaris murina eating soft species of live plants. We haven’t experienced this, but to be on the safe side, I wouldn’t put them in a terrarium with any plants you’re overly attached to.
